Dental X-Ray

Dental X-rays provide information that cannot always be seen during a visual examination. They can help assess roots, bone levels, impacted teeth, hidden decay and the anatomy needed for procedures such as root canal or implant planning.

Why an X-ray may be needed

  • Checking decay between teeth or under restorations
  • Assessing tooth roots during root canal treatment
  • Evaluating bone around teeth and implants
  • Locating impacted or unerupted teeth
  • Planning selected surgical or restorative procedures

Digital radiography

  • Digital sensors can display images quickly on a computer
  • Images can be enlarged or adjusted to help clinical interpretation
  • The dentist selects the smallest appropriate imaging field and exposure for the diagnostic need

Safety

  • Dental X-rays are prescribed only when clinically justified
  • Protective measures and modern equipment are used to keep exposure as low as reasonably achievable
  • Tell the dental team if you are or may be pregnant so imaging can be planned appropriately
The exact procedure, suitability, number of visits and healing time vary from patient to patient and can only be confirmed after a clinical examination.
